Nous proposons à la vente la série quasi complète des romans « Biggles », consultable ici, comprenant les romans publiés par les Presses de la Cité (hormis trois : « Les héros de Biggles », « Biggles au Pérou », « Biggles chasse le millionnaire ») ; la totalité des romans publiés chez Arthaud ; cinq volumes des Editions G.P. dans la collection spirale. La série est en bon état général.
James Bigglesworth, alias Biggles, est le héros mondial et intemporel de littérature jeunesse imaginé par William Earl Johns dans les années 30. Pilote de la première guerre mondiale, au Royal Flying Corp, W. E. Johns reste militaire jusqu’en 1931 en tant qu’instructeur de vol. Puis il se tourne vers l’écriture et crée un héros positif, Biggles, dans le but d’enthousiasmer le jeune lectorat par ses exploits.
Aviateur britannique né aux Indes en 1899, éduqué en Angleterre pour des raisons de santé, Biggles apprend à piloter pendant la Première Guerre mondiale et devient chef d’escadrille, avant de rejoindre la Royal Air Force quand la Seconde Guerre mondiale est déclarée. Après la guerre, il poursuit sa carrière dans l’aviation et ses missions secrètes en tant qu’agent pour l’Intelligence Service britannique.
Le personnage, héros d’une série de 98 romans et de plusieurs nouvelles, apparaît pour la première fois dans le récit The White Fokker, publié dans le premier numéro de Popular Flying Magazine. Ses aventures passionnantes et documentées, en Angleterre et dans des contrées exotiques, inspirées des propres expériences de l’auteur, reflètent admirablement l’ambiance de l’époque. La série connaît un grand succès dès l’avant-guerre. Thèmes de l’aviation et de la découverte du monde, scénario solide, personnages bien campés qui offrent une pluralité narrative, suspense, sentiments positifs et élévation morale : autant d’ingrédients qui justifient l’enthousiasme du public jeunesse.
Les Presses de la Cité éditent les premières aventures de Biggles dès 1946. Le succès s’essouffle à partir du début des années soixante. Les Presses de la Cité arrêteront alors la série mais le héros continuera à vivre dans d’autres collections avant de connaître un nouvel âge d’or avec la bande dessiné.
Les Presses de la Cité publieront de nombreux autres titres du Captain Johns mettant en scène d’autres héros : King, dit Gimlet, Worrals, l’aviatrice, Steeley le détective, etc. Nous en proposons certains exemplaires ici.

Regards de photographes sur la Révolution des Oeillets
Nous proposons un ouvrage extrêmement rare de Guy Le Querrec sur la Révolution des Oeillets, Portugal 1974-1975 : Regards sur une tentative de pouvoir populaire (1979), consultable ici.

Le photographe breton Guy Le Querrec propose ses premiers clichés de musiciens dans les années 50 à Londres, et entame sa carrière professionnelle en 1967. Recruté en 1969 par l’hebdomadaire « Jeune Afrique » en tant que photographe et rédacteur, il réalise ses premiers reportages au Tchad, au Cameroun et au Niger.
En 1972, il participe à la création de l’agence de presse photographique Viva, pour la quitter trois ans plus tard et rejoindre en 1976 l’agence Magnum, une des toutes premières coopératives photographiques, créée en 1947 par Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Georges Rodger, William Vandivert et David Seymour. Créée dans le but de permettre aux photographes de garder un contrôle total sur les droits de leurs photos, l’agence regroupe quelques-uns des plus grands photojournalistes au monde. Le mode de recrutement de ses membres, long et exigeant, lui permet de sélectionner les meilleurs professionnels de l’image. L’agence Magnum compte aujourd’hui plus de 70 membres.
Guy Le Querrec est connu pour ses nombreux reportages en Chine et en Afrique et sur les Indiens nord-américains (Sur la piste de Big Foot, Editions Textuel, 2000). Son travail de reporter est ponctué de périodes consacrées au jazz, sa grande passion Jazz sous les platanes, Editions Java, 1984 ; Scaneditions, 1993 ; Jazz Light and Day (Federico Motta Editore, 2001). Il a notamment voyagé à travers ving-cinq pays africains avec le trio Romano-Sclavis-Texier. Trois de ses albums ont d’ailleurs été inspirés par ses photos. En 1977, Guy Le Querrec publie son premier ouvrage, Quelque part, aux Editions Contrejour.
L’ouvrage que nous proposons à la vente, Portugal 1974-1975 : Regards sur une tentative de pouvoir populaire, est le deuxième livre du photographe, publié en 1979 aux Editions Hier & Demain. Il s’agit d’un regard collectif de plusieurs photographes sur les deux années qui ont suivi la Révolution des Oeillets au Portugal, tentant de suivre le mouvement à travers ses paysages sociaux et accordant une importance particulière aux images du peuple plutôt qu’à celle des dirigeants et de l’armée.
Le livre propose des photographies noir et blanc de Alecio de Andrade, Gérard Dufresne, Vojta Dukat, Jean-Claude Francolon, Jean Gaumy, Fausto Giaccone, Benoît Gysemberg, François Hers, Sylvain Julienne, Guy Le Querrec, Jacques Minassian, Alain Mingan, Jean-Paul Miroglio, Daniel Mularoni, Jean-Paul Paireault, Gilles Peress, Sebastiano Salgado, présentées par Jean-Paul Miroglio et Guy Le Querrec, avec les textes de Jean-Pierre Faye.
